About
Lucas Education Research (LER) focuses on the design and evaluation of innovative practices in K–12 schools. RTI worked with LER to create Sprocket—an online platform for teachers to manage and modify a project-based learning (PBL) curriculum. For the first five years of this project, LER used this as a research platform inviting select school districts to use the product to evaluate different types of PBL curriculum. In 2021, the platform became an open educational resource, allowing anyone to sign up and access the majority of the curriculum on the platform.
Sprocket differs from other online learning platforms because it empowers teachers to make adaptations to the curriculum to meet the needs of their context and their classrooms and enables sharing these changes with peer teachers.
Currently, this site is being transferred over from Lucas Education Research to Edutopia. I'm leading the reskinning of the platform to match the new brand.
Role
- Led the UI and UX work and defined the product strategy of Sprocket. Performed initial research and created the site architecture in conjunction with the client.
- Iterated on wireframes and integrated custom interactions allowing users to modify their curriculum, receive virtual coaching, and participate in a robust community.
- Worked with the client and focus groups comprised of educators to find engaging solutions for the user experience.
- Designed a robust backend dashboard to allow researchers to gauge curriculum usage and define feature updates.
- Worked with the development team to create a custom CMS for the platform and integration of templates created from Google Documents for ingestion of lesson plans.
